Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from March 28 to April 1. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 2 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman no rainfall and in Nicobar Island 15 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 320 to 330 C with minimum temperature of 240 to 250 C, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 64 to 74 % and 56 to 69 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 5 to 13 kmph is expected from North Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to provide life saving irrigation to vegetables during evening hours, make temporary shed within the fish pond to avoid heat stress in fish as the temperature of pond water is rises during midday and fumigate per 100 cubic feet space of poultry sheds with 20 g potassium permanganate and 40 ml of formalin in an earthen bowl for disinfection. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to mulch the basins of arecanut and coconut with crop residue to conserve moisture and reduce weed infestation and fumigate per 100 cubic feet space of poultry sheds with 20 g potassium permanganate and 40 ml of formalin in an earthen bowl for disinfection.
