Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from April 18 to 22, 2018. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 7 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 3 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 27 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 33 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 25 to 27 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 70 to 76 % and 64 to 70 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 4 to 16 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to apply bio-control agents, Trichoderma viridi or Pseudomonas fluorescence @ 2.5 kg/ha to control bacterial wilt in solanaceous vegetables, irrigate the vegetables during evening hours and do mulching to conserve soil moisture as the weather is expected to be dry and provide clean drinking water with electrolyte to poultry birds to reduce mortality. In Nicobar, farmers are advised to make besin around the coconut and Arecanut and mulch with crop residue to conserve soil moisture and provide clean drinking water with electrolyte to poultry birds to reduce mortality.
