Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from May 30 to June 3. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 266 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 225 mm and in Nicobar Island 129 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 31 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 23 to 25 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 78 to 82 % and 74 to 79 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 22 to 32 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to prepare the nursery field of paddy and strengthen the bunds to store rain water, keep the bunds of vegetable field open to drain out excess rain water, harvest the mature vegetables to avoid loses as heavy rainfall is expected during next five days and keep the day old chicks inside the shelter and keep the floor dry of poultry shed. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to plant pine apple suckers in upland area by digging 25 to 30 cm depth and maintain close spacing to avoid soil erosion and keep the day old chicks inside the shelter and keep the floor dry of poultry shed.
