Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from July 11 to 15. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 156 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 133 mm and in Nicobar Island 127 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 31 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 25 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 80 to 82 % and 77 to 79 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 38 to 54 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to prepare the main field of rice by leveling and cleaning the bunds and store the rain water, prepare nursery ponds by cleaning weeds and aquatic insects to stocks IMC spawns, provide drainage and support to the vine vegetables grown in bamboo structure as 54 km/h wind speed is expected and keep the goat in raised platform under warm condition. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to transplant coconut seedlings @ 177/ha in square method and maintain 7.5 m plant to plant distance and keep the goat in raised platform under warm condition.
