Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from July 25 to 29. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman, 60 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 59 mm and in Nicobar Island 104 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 31 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 26 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 81 to 85% and 77 to 81 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 29 to 38 kmph is expected from SouthWesterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to close the bunds in rice field to store water. Treat the paddy seedlings with 6 packets of Azospirillum  and transplant the seedlings in main field at depth of 3cm, prepare the upland area for transplanting brinjal seedlings by giving 4-5 ploughing manually and apply organic manure before final preparation and provide clean and hygienic water treated with potassium permanganate (1 ppm) to the poultry and local chickens to avoid gastrointestinal infection. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to clean around the arecanut and coconut and also the crown to reduce pest infestation and to cure anaemia  in piglet provide ferrous sulphate @ 0.5 kg dissolved in 10 lit of hot water.
