Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Sept 15 to 19, 2018. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 299 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 592 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 172 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 31.7 to 32.3 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24.8 to 28 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 79 to 87 % and 74 to 78 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 4.1 to 35 kmph is expected from SouthWesterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to keep open the rice filed bund at 15 cm height to remove excess water as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, harvest all the matured vegetable immediately and take it to the nearby market or store in a safer place, provide net around the pond to stop escaping of fishes due to overflow and provide clean and hygienic water treated with potassium permanganate (1 ppm) to the poultry birds to avoid gastrointestinal infection. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to provide drainage channel in the community garden of vegetable to avoid water logging and provide clean and hygienic water treated with potassium permanganate (1 ppm) to the poultry birds to avoid gastrointestinal infection.
