Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Oct 10 to 14, 2018. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with light to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman, 269 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 98 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 221 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 29.8 to 30.8 oC with minimum temperature of 24.2 to 24.8 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 74 to 82 % and 69 to 78 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 2.7 to 8.4 kmph is expected from SouthWesterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to make channels in the vegetable field to drain out excess rain water, avoid application of fertilizers, pesticides etc in vegetable crops as heavy rainfall is expected during next 2-3 days and dry the wet poultry litters and clean throughout by adding calcium carbonate @ 5-8 kg/100 sq.ft. area.
