Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Jan 19 to 23. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 29 mm of rainfall and in North and Middle Andaman 26 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 49 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 30.0 to 31.0 oC with minimum temperature of 23.0 to 28.0 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 73 to 82 % and 63 to 78 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 16.7 to 27.5 kmph is expected from North Easterly.
Farmers in Andaman region have been advised to prepare the land and sow the seed of bhendi after seed treatment with Tricoderma viride @ 4 g/kg of seed, prepare the land and do line sowing of mungbean @ 20 kg /ha and maintain plant population 25-30 plants per m2 and   provide sufficient drinking water to the piglets during sunny times to prevent heat stress. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to do periodical cleaning of coconut crown and garden to manage pest and diseases and provide sufficient drinking water to the piglets during sunny times to prevent heat stress.
