ANA observes Mother Language Day

The Aditya Natya Academy (ANA) observed the 19th International Mother Language Day on Wednesday in its premises at Middle Point here with a cultural function, which was graced by Mr. Anindo Majumdar, Chief Secretary, A&N as the chief guest. Mr. Parthivan, Faculty (Psychology) and Mr. R. P. Gupta, Faculty (Mathematics), DIET were present in the function as special guests. The Chief guest applauded ANA for organizing such an event, particularly in remembrance of those language martyrs who shed their blood in Dhaka (the capital city of erstwhile East Pakistan) on 21st February 1952 to uphold the esteem of Mother Tongue Bengali.  He informed how ‘Language Martyrs’ Day of 21st February 1952’ became the ‘International Mother Tongue Day’ and that globally people spoke in approximately 7,000 languages, but at present, and one language dies in every14 days.  He urged all not forget and to respect and use our respective mother tongue(s) in our daily lives to a maximum. Mr. Parthivan and Mr. Gupta also spoke on the occasion. All dignitaries paid floral tributes on the symbolic monuments and portraits of language martyrs. A feature entitled ‘Amar Ekush’ compiled by Mr. Raisuddin Gayen was presented with the recital of poems by Mr. Nandalal Debsharma and Ms. Kaberi Debsharma, accompanied with songs by Mr. Gayen, Ms. Sharmila Bala, Ms. Anoshmita Paul, Ms. Puja Biswas and Ms. Nibedita Mistry. The Chief Guest felicitated Mr. Anadiranjan Biswas, ANA’s Life Member and eminent Bengali Writer and the new General Council Member of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi with the first ‘Ekushe Samman’ introduced by ANA. Two life members of ANA as well as LG’s Commendation Certificate Awardees, Mr. Raisuddin Gayen and Mr. D. Shubham Rao, were also felicitated by him. Mr. Sushen Paul, Vice President, ANA proposed the vote of thanks.
