Sikdar, Assistant Director (ICTC), A & N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) also attended the workshop. Our country is aiming to fulfill the target of Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission by 2020 for which several steps have been contemplated and put into action under the guidance and supervision of NACO.
As an ongoing process in the efforts of EMTCT our UT has achieved great feat in securing good position among the states of the country.  The assessment of the efforts were done at the national level and A & N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) was bestowed upon with achievers award and certification of appreciation.
The certificate of appreciation and achievers award was presented to Dr. S.P. Burma, Director of Health Services, Ms. Kriti Garg, Secretary (Health) and Mr K.R. Meena, Principal Secretary (Health). The congratulated the society for its efforts.
In these Islands, the society has 13 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC), where Counselors and Lab Technicians are working relentlessly to achieve the targets in co-ordination with mainstream health functionaries and clinicians.
Controlling HIV/AIDS transmission in the Society is very intricate because the modalities of transmission is happening through blood and body-fluids and that too in a very secretive manner. AIDS cannot be fully cured but Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) brings down the viral load and increases the CD4 count, which in turn increases the longevity of life of the affected. So, the slogan “Know AIDS for No AIDS” stands very appropriate. Once again it is reiterated that the prevention of explosion of AIDS transmission can only be done through the knowledge impartation and consequent awareness generation, a release from ANACS said.
