ANI team lifts SGFI National School Sqay Martial Art C’ship trophy

The team A&N Islands has lifted the prestigious 63rd SGFI National School Sqay Martial Art Championship for U-17 (Boys & Girls). A&N Islands with 10 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals stood first followed by Delhi in the second place with 3 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze and Jammu & Kashmir in third place with 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. The Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr Anindo Majumdar as the chief guest of the closing ceremony distributed the winners and runners up trophies.

In his address, the Chief Secretary congratulated the winners and all the teams for participating in the best tradition of the game and giving their best in the championship. He also thanked the SGFI for giving an opportunity to A&N Administration for the conduct of this event for the first time in these islands and congratulated the Education Department for organising the event in a flawless manner. Though this sport is new in these islands’, our Island team remained champions, the Chief Secretary said and congratulated the coach, teachers and parents for their contribution along with the players in winning the championship trophy.  The Chief Secretary also urged the SGFI to monitor the upcoming talents even after they complete their schooling for selecting promising players. The Chief Secretary also informed the gathering about the special attention being given by the Govt. of India for promoting sports in every district including rural areas.

The Technical Officer, SGFI, Mr S. Chuabey said SGFI is the biggest sports body through which young talents are nurtured for their participation in the National and International level tournaments. The founder of Sqay Martial Art, Mr Mir Ahmed Nazir was also present on the occasion. The Directorate of Education in association with SAI & Dept. of Youth Affairs & Sports organized the event. Welcoming the gathering, the Secretary Education, Mr Arava Gopi Krishna said that altogether 12 states and the host team participated in the mega event with183 participant. Marchpast by the participating teams, cultural programme by the students of Haddo Telugu medium school and Aero Sqay demo by the mainland teams were the highlight of the closing ceremony. The Director Education, Mr Shubhankar Ghosh proposed the vote of thanks.
