ANIIDCO selected PMA for 4 key tourism projects in isles

An Investors’ Meet was organized at Delhi by the NITI Aayog and the A & N Administration for tourism projects at Long, Smith, Avis & Neil Islands on Friday. There were about 150 participants in the Investors’ Meet, which included about 40 local entrepreneurs from A & N Islands. The leading national and international hotel chains have shown their keen interest in these tourism projects.
Mr Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, made a presentation on the proposed project and said that holistic developments of the Islands will be done in most sustainable manner, with proper carrying capacity assessment so that there is no harm to the fragile ecology of the Islands alongwith protection of the interests of the Tribal inhabitants. The CEO, NITI Aayog also informed that major clearances such as CRZ will be obtained up-front so that the developers risks are reduced and the projects implementation time is reduced.The prospective investors were informed about the proactive decision of the govt. like removal of Restrict Area Permit regime (RAP), extension of Shibpur Airport for joint use by the Civil and Defence which would be made operational by 31st December, 2018, etc.. To further improve the inter island Air connectivity the Port Blair, Shibpur (Diglipur), Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay will be connected under UDAN Scheme and if required, appropriate Viability Gap Funding would also be provided. Yacht Marina is being considered at Long Island and Roll-on and Roll-off (RO-RO) facility for inter island sea connectivity is under active consideration.
The undersea cable project which is expected to be completed within 2 years will bring a revolution in internet connectivity. A committee under the chairmanship of Mr Vivek Rae, Ex-Chief Secretary of A & N Administration has been constituted to recommend measures for holistic development of Little Andaman and Great Nicobar. The Government has decided that ANIIDCO will be the Project Management Agency (PMA) for these projects on behalf of A & N Administration.
The NITI Aayog and A & N Administration are making all out efforts to initiate the bidding process for these projects and complete the same expeditiously.
