ANP pays homage to martyrs on Commemoration Day

The Commemoration Day Parade of Andaman & Nicobar Police was held at Parade Ground, Police Lines on Sunday in the memory of the police personnel who were martyred during the past one year while serving in their respective forces. Mr Dependra Pathak, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with the officers and personnel of Andaman & Nicobar Police, paid homage to the sacred souls by placing the wreaths & flowers at the “Shaheed Smarak.” The Parade was witnessed by the officers and men of Andaman & Nicobar Police, including retired Police officers, who also placed wreath at the memorial. Two minute silence was also observed.  21st October is observed as Police Commemoration Day & Commemoration Parade is held in all police units across India to pay homage to 10 policemen, who were killed in laddakh in a faceoff with the Chinese army in 1959 and all other police personnel who have laid down their lives in the service of nation.
Since 1947, more than 34000 brave policemen have made supreme sacrifices while protecting the nation and its citizens from crime, terrorism and insurgency. A total of 419 police personnel, including 1 from Andaman & Nicobar Police, were martyred this year. Their names were read out by DGP, A&N Islands to acknowledge and pay obeisance for the supreme sacrifice made by them.
