Awareness on IPM practices and ill-effects of pesticides

Integrated Pest Management Training & Demonstration Programme under Farmers’ Field School in vegetables was inaugurated by Central IPM Centre(CIPMC), Port Blair at Beodanabad Gram Panchayat Hall on Wednesday to create awareness about the IPM practices and ill effects of Pesticides among  farmers.
Mr G.S. Giri, PPO (PP), CIPMC, Port Blair urged to the farmers to adopt IPM technology in their crop fields and go for need based use of chemical pesticides and other bio-control measures. Mr Mohan Nayak, Up-Pramukh, Port Blair Tehsil Beodnabad was invited as guest of honour. He welcomed CIPMC, Port Blair for conducting such eco-friendly programme in the areas and urged the farmers to minimize indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and maximize the production as well as minimize environment pollution.
Mr V.K. Gupta, APPO, CIPMC, Port Blair described about seed treatment methods with various bio pesticides and homemade bio pesticides to avoid major disease infestation. Mr V.K. Rajak, TA, CIPMC Port Blair elaborated the ill effects of indiscriminate use of pesticides. He also described about the Bio-pesticides and its roll in controlling insect pest situation and advised the farmers to learn about pests and natural enemies present in their fields and conserve the natural enemies. Mr R.Y. Singh, Assistant Director (Ag.), South Andaman, attended the inaugural progrramme. Altogether 30 farmers and Mr Shridas AA, State Agriculture Department Bidanabad were present. Mr V.K. Rajak, TA, CIPMC, Port Blair proposed the vote of thanks.
