Awareness prog on ill-effects of alcohol, drugs and tobacco held

The District Health Society, South Andaman (National Health Mission) in association with the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Cooperative Ltd (ANIIDCO) has conducted an awareness programme on “Hazards of Addiction of Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs” through Andaman Sai Seva Samiti, an NGO at ANCOL College recently. Ms. Rupa Ray, grace the occasion as the chief guest.
The chief guest informed that since the addiction of tobacco and alcohol is the major concern of these Islands. Therefore, Lt. Governor, A&N Islands has imposed the ban on tobacco and also taken various steps to reduce the consumption of alcohol. Further, she appeal the youths to focus on the carrier and other activities means of sports & culture activities to keep them away from the addiction.
Dr. SK Kattpalia (Obst. & Gynae) HoD, ANIMS, Port Blair and Ms. Marya Sheel, Counselor for De-addiction gave presentation on various aspects of addiction and de-addiction through power point presentation to the students of ANCOL, wherein modes of addiction, causes of addiction, peer effect on addiction and various methods of de-addiction were presented. The puppet show was also performed during the programme to educate on de-addiction and students shared their views and gained enormous knowledge about “de-addiction during the interaction session with resource person.
Earlier, Mr . I. B. Yadav, Representative of ASSS (Ex-DFO) welcomed the chief guest, Officials, resource persons and students. Thereafter he briefed the students about the significance of the awareness on De-addiction.
The Principal, ANCOL thanked the District Administration for arranging such programmes. Altogether 120 students of ANCOL, and lecturers were present in the programme.
