Awareness on TB & DOTS by RNTCP

Under Revised National TB Control Programme, The State TB Control Society, Port Blair organized an awareness programme on TB & New Treatment Strategy DOTS & DOTS Plus at Prem Nagar to create awareness among the general public of the area.  A large gathering of people including ANMs, AWWs, ASHA and Health Team from Health Education Bureau attended the event. Mr. Tapan Kumar. Ray, IEC Officer, STBCS spoke in length on TB & New Treatment Strategy DOTS and highlighted the dreadful disease Tuberculosis, its sign and symptoms, prevention, management and New Treatment Strategy DOTS services available for TB patients at the nearest health center, free of cost and also discussed about FDCs (Fixed Dose Combinations) daily regimen, MDR TB and TB & HIV co-infection. He urged upon all to propagate and spread the TB messages to the neighbours and in the community, ‘Cough for more than two weeks may be TB, Go to your nearest Health Centre for Sputum Examination. Adopt DOTS for sure cure of TB’. He spoke on the ill effects of Alcohol, smoking and its consequences, particularly in relation to treatment of TB. He appealed to all the participants to give up consumption of Alcohol and smoking. A question answer session was also held in the concluding session, where Mr. Ray replied to all the queries.
