Awareness on TB & DOTS under RNTCP

Under Revised National TB Control Programme, the State TB Control Society, Port Blair organized an awareness programme on TB and New Treatment Strategy DOTS and DOTS Plus at Namunagar to create awareness among the general public of the area.  A large number of people including ANMs, AWWs, ASHAs attended the programme. Mr. Dilip Kumar (STS) Senior treatment supervisor RNTCP highlighted the basic facts about TB and its prevention measures. Mr. Tapan Kumar Ray, IEC Officer, STBCS spoke in length on TB and New Treatment Strategy DOTS and highlighted the dreadful disease Tuberculosis, its sign and symptoms, prevention, management and DOTS services available for TB patients at the nearest health centre, free of cost and also discussed about FDCs (Fixed Dose Combinations) as a daily regimen, MDR TB and TB & HIV co-infection. He urged the gathering to propagate and spread the TB messages to the neighbours and in the community, ‘Cough for more than two weeks may be TB, go to your nearest Health Centre for Sputum Examination. Adopt DOTS for sure cure of TB’. He also spoke about the ill effects of Alcohol, smoking and its consequences, particularly in relation to treatment of TB. He appealed to all the participants to give up consumption of Alcohol and smoking. A question answer session was also held in the concluding session, where Mr. Ray, and Mr. Kumar replied tom all the queries.
