More than 300 students along with teachers participated in an awareness rally from Bambooflat to Hope Town and a cleanliness drive was held by students of Vitala Public School on Thursday. Nukkad Natak was also performed by students in front of Bambooflat School and Sakeeba Public School. The ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Padmashree Naresh Chander Lal, flagged off the rally as the chief guest.
In his address, Mr Lal spoke on the relevance of Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the Prime Minister of India and urged students, teachers and villagers to maintain sanitation in their respective localities. Mr Suresh Kumar said that the group named FOOLS (Fools with Brain) was formed with the motive to keep these islands clean. Starting from just 28, the group now has over 300 volunteers. We’ve urged the administration to place dustbins in various parts of Bambooflat and adjoining areas to ensure effective cleanliness in the region. Vast stretches in the region mainly from Bambooflat to Mount Harriet remains stained with garbage all and urgent attention of the authorities has become imperative to realize the mission of Swachhta, added Mr Suresh.
