Blood Donation Camp by ANACS, NSS at JNRM

The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organised a Voluntary Blood Donation camp at  Jawaharlal Nehru  Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya here recently. Altogether, 39 units  of blood were collected  from the volunteers during the camp. In his address, Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM motivated volunteers to donate blood and support the noble cause.   The camp was conducted  under the leadership of  Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A& N  Islands.  He has advised young people  to  become  donors to  ensure voluntary  non-remunerated  safe blood supply with retention of healthy  donors.  With this  we are aiming  to establish availability of 100% voluntary blood donation  by 2020 in this Island.
He also elucidated on the fact that the HIV/AIDS is the  consequence of high risk behaviours among the  growing adults and youth. All aspects of spread of the disease and different dimensions of personal and social impact was discussed. They were advised to maintain restrain on the high risk behaviours.  The blood donation  camp was facilitated by the Dr. Ganesh Samaddar, Deputy Director (Blood Safety), ANACS. He emphasised  that apart from  being a noble cause, blood donation will also  keep a person  updated of his physical status. He also examined the donors for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation.  The camp was organised and coordinated by Dr.Kandimuthu, Assistant Professor in Economics and Programme officer NSS.
