Blood donation camp at ITI

The A and N AIDS Control Society organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp (VBD Camp) at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj last week in association with Inner Wheel Club, Port Blair. ITI students participated actively in the camp for the noble cause. Seventy Five units of blood were collected. 16 were female donors. The camp was conducted by Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society. It was facilitated by the Dr. Ganesh\ Samadder, Deputy Director (Blood Safety), ANACS. Donors were informed on blood donation criteria, blood safety and post donation care through power point presentation. The camp was organised with an objective to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation by 2020. The technical team from Blood Bank, G B Pant Hospital and ANACS ensures that the donated blood is screened before given to the recipient to prevent emergence of HIV, HCV, HBsAg, Syphilis, Malaria and other blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility for blood donation and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation. On the basis of disease or deficiency donors were advised to correct it before embarking on next blood donation camp.
