Ceremonial parade on Raising Day of A&N Police

The Andaman and Nicobar Police celebrated its Raising Day on Tuesday with great enthusiasm and pride. An impressive ceremonial Parade with 6 contingents comprising of 1 platoon each of Executive Police (Gents), Executive Police (Ladies), IRBn, Fire Service, Home Guard, Traffic and 2 platoons of A&N Police Band, headed by Mr. Naveen Kumar, Assistant Commandant/IRBn as Parade Commander, was held at Parade ground, Police Lines. Ms. Nuzhat Hassan, Director General of Police, A&N Islands took the salute on this occasion. All senior officers of A&N Police and around 300 upper and lower subordinates of A&N Police/IRBn and home guards personnel witnessed the event.
The history of A&N Police dates back to the year 1875. In order to deal with crime and criminals, in the year 1924 the Civil Police Force was formed as a separate branch under the control of a Commandant. After independence, on 16th January, 1953 Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, the first IPS officer took over the charge of the Superintendent of Police from Mr. M. Macfarland. This day is celebrated as the ‘Raising Day’ of the A&N Police.The Director General of Police conveyed her heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and all the members of A & N Police.
She presented Commendation Certificates with cash rewards to PC/496 Navin Kujur, who had won a gold medal in the ISC National Rowing Championship-2017 held at Kolkata, PC/3011 Amlan Das for winning two silver medals and PC/353 S. K. Pandey for winning two silver medals and one bronze medal in the 17th All India Police Water Sports Championship-2017 held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The entire Ceremonial Parade function of the Raising Day Celebration was held under the supervision of Ms.Usha Rangnani, Superintendent of Police (AP). Besides, an Online Services Portal http://andssw1.and.nic.in/swc/depts/fire) and http://andssw1.and.nic.in/ospfire for issue of Fire Clearance Certificate (FCC) was launched in the evening by Mr.Anindo Majumdar, Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Islands at Gazetted Officers Mess, Atlanta Point on 16/1/2018 in presence of DGP, A&N Islands and other senior officers of A & N Administration, Forest Department, AN Command, Coast Guard and others.
The portal has been developed as an integral part of Single Window Clearance (SWC) portal under the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ project of GOI, being implemented in Andaman &Nicobar Islands. Mr. Majumdar lauded the efforts of both Police Fire Service department and NIC in developing the online web portal to ensure transparency and speedy disposal of applications for issue of Fire Clearance Certificate for various activities. He also lauded the services rendered by the A&N Police Fire Service in saving life and property and highlighted the outstanding performance of Fire Service in the recent past during fire incidents. The A&N Police Raising day 2018 concluded with a Bada Khana.
