CG awarded for rescue operations

Acknowledging the yeomen services being rendered by Indian Coast Guard in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands commended the Indian Coast Guard, A & N Region on the occasion of Independence Day 2017. The Commendation Certificate was awarded for successful execution of maritime search and rescue operation undertaken by ships and aircraft of Coast Guard on July 20, resulting in saving of 11 valuable lives of the crew members of MV ITT Panther. The vessel sunk, while on passage from Kolkata to Port Blair, in North-Eastern Bay of Bengal near Indo-Myanmar maritime boundary in the early hours of July 20 after it developed dangerous list due shifting of cargo in rough monsoon weather conditions.
Inspector General KR Suresh, Tatrakshak Medal, Commander Coast Guard Region A&N received the certificate from the Lt. Governor during the Independence Day celebration at Netaji Stadium on Tuesday.
