CG conducts coastal clean-up drive in isles

Indian Coast Guard conducted a massive beach clean-up drive at various beaches in A & N Islands including Campbell Bay, Diglipur, Mayabunder, Hutbay, Kamorta and Port Blair on Saturday towards government of India flagship programme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. The service has been effectively contributing not only towards Prime Minister’s visionary step of clean India campaign but also has taken step towards “Swachh Sagar Abhiyan” through putting efforts towards beach clean ship in these pristine Islands. Under this programme, various Coast Guard ships and establishments in A&N Islands are undertaking beach clean up on every Saturday with an aim to spread the awareness among locals towards protecting the pristine beaches of Isles.
The event was conducted by Indian Coast Guard personnel where in approximately garbage including discarded plastic items, ropes, nets and clothes etc were collected from all the beaches and handed over to concerned civil administration for disposal. The event was witnessed and applauded by locals and they also extended helping hand towards cleaning the area. During the drive the banner was also displayed to sensitize the locals not to pollute the pristine beaches of the islands. Indian Coast Guard had been instrumental in generating awareness amongst local populace regarding the importance of clean shores. The event was a great success and the beach looked cleaner on completion of the drive.
