CG interacts with fishers at Junglighat FLC

A special Community Interaction Programme was organized by Indian Coast Guard at Fish Landing Centre (FLC), Junglighat on Monday to create mass awareness on scheduled Coastal security exercise in early April  & on safety practices to be adhered whilst at sea. The event was conducted by Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Port Blair in coordination with fisheries department. The event was attended by local fishermen in addition to the representative of fisheries department.
During the event, the fishermen were briefed about utilization of safety to be adhered whilst operating at sea. The fishermen were encouraged to carry all lifesaving equipment, boat registration papers including individual biometric ID cards for prompt identification. The Fishermen were also sensitized to operate in buddy system for better safety cover. Mass awareness programme about Government subsidies on various fishing appliances were elaborated to the community and were appraised about utilizing the subsidy judiciously to develop community economically. Government of India flagship programmes ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ were also discussed.
Fishing Community were briefed to maintain continuous vigil for strangers at all landing points especially at night and necessity of carrying mobile phone for communication with toll free numbers 1554/1093.
