CIARI’s agromet bulletin

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from May 27 to 3. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 150 mm of rainfall is expected, in North and Middle Andaman 152 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 117 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 33 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 27 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 79 to 82 % and 76 to 80 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 25 to 34 kmph is expected from south westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to prepare the nursery bed of paddy and use seed @ 40 kg/ha of medium duration variety like CARI Dhan3 and Swarnadhan, provide temporary shed to the vegetable nursery as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, harvest the mature banana and provide support to the fruit bearing banana tree as wind speed may rise to 30 km/h and clean the coconut field to avoid the attack of Rhinoceros beetle in coconut palm and set light traps and do bone fire during night hours to attract the adult moth of slug caterpillar.
