CIARI’s agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from May 13-17, 2017. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman, 186 mm of rainfall is expected while in North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar, 93 mm and 190 mm of rainfall is expected. The maximum temperature will be 31 to 33 oC with minimum temperature of 26 to 27 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 70 to 77 % and 66 to 72 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 2 to 28 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in Andaman region have been advised to prepare nursery in portray by mixing well decomposed manure and sow the brinjal seed @ 400 to 500 g, for transplanting into one hectare area, keep the bunds of vegetable field open to drain out excess water. Protect nurseries by providing rain shelter, avoid spraying of pesticide in vegetables, as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected during next five days and keep day old chicks under light preferably 40 watt bulb to keep warm up to 3weeks of age and provide clean drinking water during the period. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to avoid manure application in plantation crops of coconut and arecanut as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected and keep day old chicks under light preferably 40 watt bulb to keep warm up to 3weeks of age and provide clean drinking water.
