CIARI’s agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In its agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Aug 17-21, 2017, CIARI forecast 199 mm of rainfall in South Andaman, 244 mm of rainfall in North and Middle Andaman and 103 mm of rainfall in Nicobar Island during the period. The maximum temperature will be 27 to 31 oC with minimum temperature of 24 to 25 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 77 to 83 % and 74 to 82 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 29 to 40 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to eep rice field bund open at 5 to 10 cm height to remove excess water as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, cover around the pond or BBF with net to stop escape of fishes due to over flow and provide at least 16 hrs light during cloudy weather to poultry and back yard rearing by providing electric bulbs in the shed during night. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to collect the fallen coconut and arecanut from the garden to avoid germination of nuts in the field itself and provide at least 16 hrs light during cloudy weather to poultry and back yard rearing by providing electric bulbs in the shed during night.
