CIARI’s agromet bulletin for farmers

Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) has predicted that cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur during next five days in North, Middle and South Andaman.42 mm of rainfall is expected during the period in these areas. The maximum temperature in North, Middle and South Andaman will be 30 to 31 degree Celsius with minimum temperature of 25-26 degree Celsius.  Rice farmers of these islands have been advised to apply first dose of fertilizers in transplanted rice. Those looking to sow vegetables have been advised to sow leafy vegetables (Amaranthus and poi) on raised beds of 30 cm height and 45-100 cm width. Manuring in the fish pond must be done to improve primary production of the fingerlings. Cattle rearers have been advised to monitor for Foot and mouth disease in livestock and consult the local veterinary doctor.                                             
According to the forecast, Nicobar district will witness cloudy weather and will receive moderate rainfall during next five days. In Nicobar Islands 85 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 31 degree Celsius with minimum temperature of 25 to 26 degree Celsius.  Vegetable growers of Nicobar district have been advised to do hand weeding in vegetable crops and remove rain water from the field. Cattle rearers must monitor for Foot and mouth disease in livestock and consult the local veterinary doctor.
