CITU bats for daily rated workers

Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has demanded immediate implementation of the Office Memorandum dated 22nd September, 2017 issued by the A & N Administration on 1/30th of pay plus DA to daily rated mazdoors working in various departments under the Administration. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary,  CITU A & N State Committee  while inviting his attention to the OM No. 289 dated 22nd  September, 2017  said  that none of the Departments under the A & N Administration  has  implemented the said direction of the Administration.   As per the said OM, the enhanced wages shall be granted only to those DRMs who are working as on date (1.9.2017) based on their seniority. Through the said OM, the Administration had asked the departments concerned to prepare the seniority list of  all daily rated mazdoors  as on date (1.9.2017) and forward a copy of  such list to the Labour Department within 7 days from the date of issue of the said OM. Through the said OM the Admn/Labour department had directed that the scheme may be implemented strictly following the principle of  seniority.
CITU regretted to inform the Chief Secretary that no department has extended the financial benefit of the said scheme to the DRMs working under it. The CITU further brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary that some of the departments have disengaged the workers already working under it as on 1.9.2017 and in their place new workers have been engaged. This is a serious nature of misconduct on the part of the officials concerned.  CITU complained that despite bringing this illegal action on the part of the concerned departments to the notice of the Administration and Labour Department, no action seems to have been taken by the Labour department . The CITU further urged the Chief Secretary to issue strict instructions to the Heads of Departments to implement the OM No. 289 dated 22nd September, 2017 strictly in accordance with the directions contained in it and ensure that  all the workers who were on roll  on 31st August, 2017 are extended the benefit besides directing the departments not to disengage the workers.
