CITU, NGGOA observe May Day with befitting progs

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions jointly with Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association celebrated May Day by organizing various programmes throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.  The main programme was held at Port Blair where the May Day procession began from Crusade House premises at Phoenix Bay at 4 p.m.which after making a round of the town culminated at Tiranga Park. Hundreds of workers from Port Blair and South Andaman areas participated in the procession.
Addressing the gathering at Tiranga Park, Mr B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary of the CITU A & N State Committee traced out the history of May Day and the sacrifices made by the workers of Chicago who had laid down their lives while fighting for 8 hours working day. Speaking on the occasion, Mr TS Sreekumar, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association criticized the government for pursuing the anti-working class policies. Mr M. Boominathan, President, CITU A & N State Committee while addressing the participants in the rally explained in brief the harassment meted out to the workers by the authorities in various departments.
In the morning, CITU flag was hoisted by the workers of Peerless Hotel in front of the Hotel complex where Mr B. Chandrachoodan, President of the Peerless Resorts Employees Union addressed the workers.  May Day rally was also organized at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Billiground, Rangat, Baratang, Little Andaman and various other outstations under the banner of CITU.
