Bus race on Bhatu Basti-Dollygunj stretch gives jitters to commuters
While works for the city’s first four-lane project has been accelerated by the building agency, rash and negligent particularly by private bus drivers on the arterial stretch from Dollygunj to Bhatu Basti is giving jitters to commuters these days. With the installation of concrete median strips in the stretch, flagrant violation of traffic norms like over speeding, left-side overtaking is putting other road users to grave risk on the road. Deployment of traffic cops seems to have become imperative to prevent any mishap on the stretch at least till expansion of the work stretch including laying of bitumen and proper marking on either side is completed. “Installation of concrete dividers on the stretch used by motorists as race tracks earlier was expected to prevent fatal accidents on the stretch. Though no such mishap has been reported till date, rash and negligence driving by private bus drivers has become the order of the day. Motorists particularly two wheeler riders have their heart in mouth when careless and adrenaline junkie bus drivers overtake them from left at breakneck speeds. The traffic unit should deploy teams in different spots on the stretch to keep vigil on such errant bus drivers and motorists. Vehicles of those found violating norms should be impounded and heavy challans imposed,” said a commuter.  Meanwhile speaking to EOI, the Executive Engineer, APWD, Mr Linga Raju, said that execution of the major road project is progressing as per schedule. We expect to complete the road expansion work from INS Utkrosh gate to Bhatu Basti by March this year. Besides day hours, works are also carried out in the night to avoid inconvenience to commuters. Once completed, the project will make commuting more comfortable and safer for road users, he said.
