Giant fans to cool passengers at VSI airport
Air travellers, who have to wait for hours at the departure terminal of Veer Savarkar International Airport here, can heave a sigh of relief. The Airport Authority of India has decided to install giant fans at the terminal for passenger convenience. As per reports, a team of Airport Authority of India, during a recent inspection, realized that the present fans at the terminal barely provided any air to commuters. On the recommendations of the team, the AAI decided to install two new fans with huge blade spans at the terminal. “There are many people who wait for their flights at the terminal, sometimes for long hours. The current lot of fans doesn’t provide the necessary relief. Hence, we have started installing new gigantic ones. These fans will cover more diameter and air circulation will improve,” said an airport official, who didn’t wish to be named.

Traffic cones installed at Lamba Line
In a welcome move, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has started installing traffic cones on the arterial road stretch from Lamba Line to School Line recently. Made of plastic, installation of cones, also called pylons, is aimed at putting a check on rising mishaps and violations of traffic rules on the busy road stretch. Citizens, in view of past instances, are however concerned over damage caused to the public property within days of installation. “Traffic cones are installed on roads to demarcate stretches, warn in advance of hazards or dangers and ensure smooth vehicular movement. The stretch, which witnesses mad rush among motorists mainly during rush hours, now bears a fresh look and the installed pylons are expected to put an end to dangerous overtaking spree often leading to fatal road accidents. However, the traffic police should ensure installation of CCTVs at the location to book people found causing damage to the public property. Even in the past traffic delineators mounted on the road surface from Lamba Line to Bhatu Basti were crushed by errant motorists within months of installation. Crushed plastic cones present a bad picture of the city besides money spent on these cones goes down the drain,” said a Lamba Line resident.
