Indrapal Singh, Chairperson, PBMC along with Ms. Vinitha Malhotra, SVC, Ms. S. Selvi, JVC, other Councilors with Engineering staff of PBMC and a team from Gramin Vikas Trust visited the water reservoir at Brichgunj, ward No. 22. Chairperson requested the officials of Gramin Vikas Trust to explore the possibilities to construct a check dam and setting up of a treatment plant to supply water to the Port Blair citizens around the clock, as now citizens within the Municipal limit are receiving water on alternate days. Most of the year, the citizens of Port Blair and its adjoining areas experience acute scarcity of water for domestic use. The check dam will be able to store high volume of rain water for a longer length which will help the local inhabitants to meet their basic needs. He directed the engineering staff to initiate action to take over the said land from the Panchayat and Zilla Parishad as it is within Municipal limits. Thereafter the team visited Brookshabad where a land was allotted for setting up of de-salination plant. Chairperson requested the team of Gramin Vikas Trust to examine the feasibility and to furnish a researched paper for setting up of desalination plant for the city.
