Cleanliness drive by Coast Guard

Indian Coast Guard conducted a massive beach clean-up drive at Corbyns Cove beach on Saturday as a part of ongoing “Swachhta Pakawada”. Coast Guard personnel from various CG establishments at Port Blair, families and the CG civilian employees conducted the Swachhta drive during the week end where in more than 150 personnel participated in the event. The aim of the drive was to generate awareness about preserving the marine environment and keeping the beaches clean in line with hon'ble Prime Minister’s initiative of 'Sawcth bharat'.
The event was conducted in the morning hours where in approximately     300 Kgs of inorganic waste including discarded plastic items, ropes, nets and clothes etc were collected and disposed in eco friendly manner. The event was witnessed and applauded by locals and they also extended helping hand towards cleaning the area. During the drive, banners and placards were displayed to sensitize the visitors against polluting the pristine Islands. The event was a great success as the garbage laden area was converted into a clean beach.
