Coconut Dev Board, HVADA hold farmers’ meet at Diglipur

A Farmers Meet under the Coconut Development Board Scheme, was conducted by the Department of Agriculture, Diglipur in association with the High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) on Wednesday in the Conference Hall of GPOA Building, Diglipur. The meet was inaugurated by Mr Awanish Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur. The programme was graced by Mr Shyamal Mondal, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur as guest of honour, Dr. Dulal Biswas, Senior Veterinary Officer, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences and Mr Swapan Mallick, In-charge IPO, Industries Department. Around 60 farmers from the region attend the meet.
In his address, Mr Awanish Kumar lauded the efforts of the Coconut Development Board and Agriculture department for implementation of the scheme for the coconut growers. He urged the young entrepreneurs to come forward to fight against the risk involved  in marketing. He insisted the members of Coconut Producers Society as well as farmers to avail the benefit of each scheme. He also emphasized to actively participate in the interaction programmes conducted by the department so as to make them aware and to clear their doubts.
During the intermediary session, the block level best farmers were felicitated with a certificate and cash prize. Mr Somasekharan, Keralapuram received a cash prize of Rs.6000 and Mr Ganesh ch. Majhi, Ramnagar received an amount of Rs. 4000 as token of gratitude.  Simultaneously the beneficiaries of CDB scheme “Laying out demonstration plots in coconut garden” for 2nd year were distributed inputs. The inputs like coconut dehusker, showel, hand fork, khurpi, vermicompost, micronutrient mixture, sprayer parts etc. were distributed to the beneficiaries by the chief guest & other dignitaries.
Mr Shyamal Mondal, Pramukh explained that coconut is one of the major plantation crops of our islands and its whole part is useful. He urged the farmers to take utmost benefit from it and also to take the help of the concerned departments. Mr Swapan Mallick, I/c IPO explained that the industries department is always ready to help the farmers financially by way of establishment of Coconut Oil Unit, Virgin Coconut Oil Unit, Copra processing and full support is provided right from extraction till packaging of the finished products. He requested the farmers to go for processing of coconut by improved methods to get good quality copra.
Earlier, Smt Sreedevi, Assistant Director (Agri) welcomed the gathering and highlighted the scope of cultivation of coconut in A & N Islands. In these islands the productivity of coconut is less in comparison to the national level. She emphasized on producing value added products of coconut by the members of Coconut Producers Society so as to flourish the society and youths to come forward to take up the marketing value addition, processing etc. To improve the economic status of farmers, she urged the farmers to raise inter-crops in coconut garden.
During the interaction session the aim of the meet was explained i.e. to pool the coconut growers cum beneficiaries of the scheme “Laying out demonstration plots in coconut garden” for its productivity improvement from different villages of Diglipur zone, so that they can interact with each other and with the officials and share the feedback and suggestions in connection with the implementation of the scheme in their field.
