Competition on Legal Rights of Women in India at ALC

An intra-college competition on ‘Legal Rights of Women in India’ to create legal awareness among students was organised jointly by National Commission for Women, New Delhi and Andaman Law College here. A prize distribution ceremony was organised on Monday at Andaman Law College. Ms. Shalini Singh, Inspector General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Police as chief guest, Mr. Pradip Banerjee, Secretary (Law), A & N administration and Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Senior Scientist and O-i-C, Zoological Survey of India, A&N Regional Centre as guest of honour attended the event.
Ms. Singh spoke on the need for social change by collective effort of the people and also the real empowerment of women is possible only with strict implementation of the law. Dr. Sivaperuman spoke on the role of women in social development and listed the contribution of women in various fields in India. Mr. Banerjee made an appeal to women to liberate themselves from the discriminative practices of the society. Ms. Shanthi Samandha pointed that patriarchal society was the main cause for most problems a woman faces in society. Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Soundara Pandian, Principal, Andaman Law College and Dr. C. Sathish, Assistant Professor delivered the  welcome address and proposed the  vote of thanks respectively. The chief guest distributed cash prizes to winning students.
