Construction of Mohanpura Modern Fish Market on fast lane

Becoming an instant hit in just few days after it was thrown open to general public, the Modern Fish Market at Junglighat earned national recognition after being adjudged as the second best hygienic fish market in the country recently. Contested among 79 Fish Markets in the country funded by the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, the Modern Fish Market at Junglighat equipped with a wide range of facilities for both vendors and customers bagged the award at the Swachhta Pakhwada Celebration by the Board in December last year. With the market at Junglighat becoming the favourite for customers, pressure is now on the authorities to complete the other one at Mohanpura at the earliest.
As per reports, works are progressing at a steady pace for construction of the Modern Fish Market at Mohanpura and is expected to be complete within the set deadline. To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.76 crore, the two-storeyed Hygienic Wholesale-cum-Retail Fish Market at Mohanpura will be spread in an area of 343 sq.mtrs. The ground floor with sheet roofing will have 38 stalls, 1 weighing room, 1 office room, 1 store room, 1 chill room. The first floor will house 6 Dry Fish Stalls, one office room, one store room, one rest room and one hall. The Mohanpura Modern Fish Market will allow vendors handle at least 4 tonnes of fish per day at the rate of 80 to 150 kilos of fish per vendor. Of the sanctioned 96.29 lakh, the National Fisheries Development Board has already released 37.69 lakh for the project.
“The Administration fulfilled one of the long pending demands both fish vendors and customers by opening the Modern Fish Market at Junglighat. The market is extremely hygienic and also has other facilities like facilities like water, electronic weighing machines, proper drains in the complex. There is also arrangement to keep away flies inside the market. Fish lovers throng the market both during morning and evening hours because of the perfect ambience here. The Fisheries Department, which is executing the Modern Fish Market at Mohanpura should expedite works at the site so that the project is completed on time. These markets with modern amenities not only will ensure safe and hygienic environment for fish market but also enhance shelf life of fish which will increase economic potential of fisheries,” said some residents of Mohanpura.
Funded by the Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, the Modern Fish Markets at Junglighat and Mohanpura are aimed to boost the fishing industry of these islands, promote domestic fish marketing and enable people buy quality fish amidst certain conveniences. Equipped with a range of facilities to aid fishers handle fish harvest from different parts of the city and provide buyers a more hygienic ambience, the Modern Fish Markets will enable fisher folk community to sell their catch in an hygienic environment. Like the Junglighat Market, the one at Mohanpura will also cold storage room where fishermen can store fish tons, proper tiled sitting arrangement for individual vendors, lighting and fans, fly catching machines and a solid and liquid waste disposal machine for conversion of fish waste into manure. An electronic weighing balance compartment will also available inside the market to facilitate consumers check the weight of procured fish.
