CPI(M) to hold week-long campaign on public issues from July 21

Port Blair
13 Jul 2017

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Andaman and Nicobar State Organizing Committee will conduct week-long campaign in the islands on various issues/demands related to the people.   Street corner meetings will be conducted at various places of South Andaman and Port Blair July 21-25, 2017 which will be followed by a mass dharna and public meeting at Tiranga Park here on July 27. A decision to this effect was taken by the State Secretariat meeting of CPI (M) held at Shaheed Bhavan, Party Headquarters at Anarkali. The meeting expressed serious concern over the stoppage of sugar to the public through Fair Price Shops and demanded its restoration in order to ensure availability of sugar to the islanders and to avoid its shortage.   The meeting noted that the A & N Administration has not taken the issue of implementation of Goods & Service Tax in these islands seriously because of which businessmen and general public are put to hardship.   The meeting also expressed serious concern over the failure of the Shipping sector in the islands. Most of the mainland-island and inter-island vessels are not put to service due to failure of timely APS and other repair works. The meeting noted that passengers of southern group of islands including Little Andaman are facing hardship due to non-availability of ships.
The  others issues to be highlighted during the campaign price rise, effective measures for job creation for local youths, filling up of  vacant posts in various departments under the A & N Administration etc. Mr KG Das presided over the meeting while D. Laxman Rao addressed the gathering.
