Several areas in the city, particularly Mohanpura, Aberdeen Bazar and Phoenix Bay suffered disruption in water supply after a major underground pipeline ruptured on Saturday. The crack was reported at around 10 am yesterday and water spilling out from the pipe has flooded the area near Andaman Law College. The site also witnessed traffic congestion for a few hours after the incident. Government agencies pressed all machinery into action for repair of the pipeline network for early resumption of normal water supply.
According to a municipal employee, the disruption in water supply was for only a few hours. “Excavators and other machinery were rushed to the spot to fix the underground pipeline after it developed a crack. The civic body is committed to provide best services to the urban population and routine maintenance of water supply lines are carried out to ensure uninterrupted water supply.”
