The recent report published in The Echo of India on exorbitant fee demand by the Common Service Centres (CSC) operators created a furore in the city after CSCs stopped accepting payment of electricity bills. According to reports, many CSCs in the city declined to accept power bills and asked the customers to approach the concerned office of the Electricity Department for payment.
A senior citizen, speaking to this Correspondent, informed that a CSC operator refused him twice to accept electricity bill. “On the first day, I was told that power bills could not be accepted as the server was down, while on the next day, the CSC staff  blatantly told me to remit the bill at the Electricity Office. Such attitude of the CSC staff  has created confusion among the citizens over where to approach for payment of power bills. Some even speculated that the EOI report has not gone down well with the CSC operators who are now deliberately causing inconvenience to the customers,” said the senior citizen.
Speaking to EOI, the In-charge of Common Service Centres, Mr Mohan Babu scotched the speculations. “There is some technical problem in one of the portals of CSC and people are on the job to rectify it. The issue will be resolved in a couple of days and normal operations will resume,” he informed and urged the people not to get panicky.
