Day 5 of All India Cooperative Week

The 5th Day of the 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration was inaugurated on Saturday at PBMC Community Hall, Dairyfarm by Mr. Som Naidu, Joint Secretary-cum-Director (RD / Panchayat) in presence of representatives of various Apex Level Cooperative, Govt. officials, PRI members and a large gathering of cooperators. Mr. Som Naidu lauded  A & N State Co-operative Union for taking the cooperative movement across the islands and urged people to avail the benefits of schemes of the Coop. Bank and Fisheries Federation for their socio-economic growth through booming sectors like Fisheries and Tourism. He advised people to form more and more SHGs.
Ms. Elizabeth Mary, Women Development Officer (WDO) of the bank said that A & N State Coop. Bank has formed over 4000 SHGs across the Islands of which 2500 have availed loan to the tune of Rs. 35 Crores till date and have made their SHGS prosper. Mr. Abdul Rasheed, ARCS underlined the importance of Co-operative Week, adding that it was the time for the SHGs to function as co-operative societies and yield more profits. He appreciated A & N Fisheries Federation in the marketing to the end users (Consumers). Mr. M. K Srinivasan, General Manager, ANCOFED spoke on examples of successful co-operative societies. Mr. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director of the bank urged to use technology in Co-operative sectors for overall improvement and encouraged for best use of Fisherman Credit Card (KCC) for any sort of financial assistance.
Dr. Siju P Varghese, Sr. Scientist, Fisheries Survey of India, Govt. of India spoke on the topic as an expert of the day highlighting works by Fisheries Survey of India in A & N Islands, a fertile potential for fishing sector. Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Surender Nath Singh, Project officer, NCUI spoke about the day’s topic ‘Cooperative for disadvantageous and economically weaker sections’. Mr. Anant Rao, General Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar State Coop. Union proposed the vote of thanks.
