DC launches Community Toilet project at North Bay

A rural work for construction of Community Toilet near Smt. B.Jogamma House at North Bay, Ward No.2, Gram Panchayat, Hope Town under MGNREGA, Ferrargunj Block got underway on Wednesday.. Mr Udit Prakash Rai, District Programme Coordinator (Deputy Commissioner), MGNREGA, South Andaman performed the ceremonial puja at the worksite in the presence of Mr Rajender Pal, Senior Programme Officer, MGNREGA, Ferrargunj Block, Mr P. Madhusudan Rao, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Hopetown, Mr Shyamnathan, Panchayat Samity Member, Hopetown, Smt Serofina Kerketta, Up Pradhan, Hopetown, Mr B.Ponnaiah, Ward Member, North Bay No-2, other PRI members, MGNREGA and Panchayat officials and village members. The work will be completed at a cost of Rs 5,32,974 and will be executed by the MGNREGA Job Card Holders. The community toilet block will house four units. The community toilet will be handed over to the nearby community members by the Gram Panchayat after completion.
In his address, the District Programme Coordinator, MGNREGA, South Andaman District exhorted the beneficiaries to make full use of the facility when completed. He fixed a timeline of three months for completion of the Community Toilet Block and said that such projects will help the villages in attaining Open Defecation Free Status. He also requested the community members to keep the facility hygienic and clean so that all members can use it.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited other areas of the Gram Panchayat to take stock of the issues raised by the Pradhan and issued necessary directions to the PRI’s and the officials concerned.
