DC sums up land allotment issues in Middle Andaman

The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman convened a meeting on the issue of allotment of land for excess settler families, regularisation of encroached land for landless persons etc on Wednesday at Gram Panchayat Hall, Bakultala in Middle Andaman. The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, Patwari of Rangat and Revenue Inspector of Bakultala and a sizeable gathering of villagers.
The gathering was informed that the administration proposes to recommend 200 to 300 sq.mtrs of land for excess settler families and land encroachers. However, the villagers opposed the proposal demanding allotment of at least one hectare of land to the families and regularization of entire land encroached by them. The Assistant Commissioner clarified that the meeting was called to discuss on the proposed recommendations and suggestions placed by the villagers will be placed to the top authorities, which will take a final call.
