Disaster awareness at Humfreygunj

The Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration in coordination with Gram Panchayat, Humfreygunj and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organised a Disaster Awareness-Cum-Training programme under Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Programme in the Community Hall of Gram Panchayat, Humfreygunj on November 2 and 3 to sensitise various task force groups, volunteers and communities with the aim to integrate community in pre, during and post disaster activities with focus on creating a Community Disaster Response Volunteer Force (CDRVF) at Gram Panchayat level and preparation of Disaster Management Plans of Gram Panchayats to enhance the capacity of the community as first responder.
Mr. Govind Ram, Director, Disaster Management spoke on the disaster preparedness efforts of the Administration and the role of PRIs, Tribal Village Councils and the community who can play the most vital role in strengthening the preparedness levels. He also urged to all Gram Panchayats to come forward for creation of CDRVF in their Panchayats which to respond to the golden hours of any disaster as the first responders. Ms. Sahay Mary, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Humfreygunj welcomed the gathering. The officers explained the vulnerability profile of A&N Islands by a power point presentation, explaining the importance of CBDRM at village level to tackle disaster like situation in future at grass root levels by the community at their own level. The NDRF team presented different techniques and procedures of rescue operation during emergency in disasters including MFR (Medical First Responders) and SAR (Search & Rescue).
