In a major respite for those involved in the real estate business, the District Administration of South Andaman is likely to notify the Apartment Regulations soon. The much-awaited regulation was scheduled to be notified last year, but the initiative hit certain hurdles generating resentment in the mushrooming real estate business in these islands.
Speaking to this correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Mr Udit Prakash Rai, said that the efforts are underway to notify the Apartment Regulation soon. “Certain objections were raised against the proposed regulation following which the official file was sent to the Law Department seeking certain clarifications. A suggestion was made to hold deliberations with the stakeholders in the real estate business before finalising the draft regulations. Accordingly, steps are being taken to convene a meeting of all stakeholders after which the implementation stage will decided. The general public can expect the draft Apartment Regulation to be available in public domain for inviting claims, objections and suggestions by the end of this month,” added Mr Rai.
The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Udit Prakash Rai, during a press conference in August last year, informed that the District Administration of South Andaman was in the process of formulating the Apartment Regulations to regulate construction/sale of flats. The announcement received wide appreciation from the general public, particularly the real estate industry, which has witnessed a boom in the recent years.
