Ensure proper implementation of PM’s social welfare schemes: LG

The Lt Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi reviewed the status of implementation of various social schemes launched by the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi. During the last three years, the Prime Minister has launched a slew of welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the poor, empowering women and youth and for those people under below poverty line.
Major social schemes in the Islands include Aadhaar enrolment under which 98% enrolment has been done and 86.66 % accounts have been seeded with Aadhaar in the Islands. Under the Food Security scheme, cent percent ration cards have been digitized and seeded with Aadhaar. The coverage of households under the ‘Housing for All’ is also progressing satisfactory. The Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural & Urban) schemes are being implemented in the right earnest. Similarly, under the UJALA project, so far all the targeted 4 lakhs LED bulb have been distributed in the Islands. 62314 beneficiaries have been seeded with Aadhaar under PAHAL-Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme thus covering 81.6 % coverage in the islands. Other important social schemes include PM Ujawala Yojna in which 1583 of the target beneficiaries have been provided free gas connections.  Under the Mudra Bank Yojana, 4541 loans have been sanctioned worth Rs 98.77 lakhs. In the same manner, the Digital India schemes are also being promoted with a vision to transform the Islands into a digitally empowered society. Similarly, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is also being implemented in letter and true spirit.  
Reviewing the progress of the scheme, the Lt Governor directed the concerned departments to implement these schemes in letter and spirit so that benefits of these social security schemes reach to different sections of the society. Directions were given to the concerned departments to work in tandem to meet the targeted objectives within the specified timeframe. He also emphasized the need to take the government's initiatives to people, the needy in particular.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is one such UT in the country which always remains in the forefront in implementation of all central government schemes.
