After years of neglect, the civic body has finally got time to pay attention to address the abysmal condition of a prominent Children’s Park in one of the most posh residential colonies of the city. Acting on the report published in this daily, the Port Blair Municipal Council has initiated steps to titivate the park at NABARD Colony. This Correspondent, during a visit yesterday, noticed the municipal workforce clearing wild bushes and sanitizing the area, much to the respite of the residents.
“This is a welcome step by the Municipal Council. The civic agency should have ensured proper maintenance of the park in this prominent area. Better late than never! We appreciate the civic body and its leadership for the timely action. This park was literally unusable for the past several years. When maintained, we used to use the facility for morning and evening walks. Our wards are also happy as the Chairperson of the Council has assured to repair or install old and new play equipment for children at the park,” said a senior citizen speaking to EOI.
EOI in February this year reported how the abysmal condition of a Children’s Park at NABARD Colony bore testimony to the apathy of the authorities in ensuring proper maintenance of public facilities. Located in the heart of the city at Goal Ghar, the Children’s Park at NABARD Colony here was beaming with activities for a few months after its inauguration. The Park, then, wore a deserted look with almost all play equipment  turned rusty and the area becoming home to wild bushes and creatures.
