‘Fake’ Baba behind bars for duping gullible citizen at Havelock

A resident of Havelock, Smt Sagarika Sikder, complained at PS Havelock about one ‘Baba’  Tapan, who was a regular visitor to her house had stolen several gold ornaments and cheated her of her money recently. A case was registered at PS Havelock and it was found that the accused is at Pathargadda. Immediately, SI Adi Murthy, PS Havelock was deputed to Port Blair and the ‘Baba’ was apprehended with the assistance of SI Santosh Shenoy and PC/Samir Das of PS Pahargaon.
On sustained interrogation, accused Tapan Bor (46) resident of  Dakshin Baliadanga, Gopainagar, North 24 Pargans, West Bengal now at Lal Pahar, Chouldari confessed to posing as a ‘Baba’ to win confidence of innocent persons  and the stolen articles i.e. gold jewellery worth Rs.1.50 lakhs and cash of Rs. 2,00,300 have been recovered from his possession. The arrested person has been sent to judicial custody.
The arrest of accused and recovery of gold jewellery and stolen cash could be made due to efforts made by the team comprising  Insp. Rahul, SI Adi Murthy, PC/ Ranjit Biswas, PC/Shabnam and PC/K.Gopi and I.O. of the case SI Satvir Singh of PS Havelock and SI Santosh Shenoy and PC/Samir Das of PS Pahargaon. The general public  have been requested to pass information over to the Police on phone No.100, 03192-282405, if any illegal activity comes to their notice.
