Farmers' Field School at Manglutan

Integrated Pest Management Training and Demonstration Programme under Farmers’ Field School in vegetables was inaugurated by Central IPM Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair at Guptapara Gram Panchayat Hall on 11.12.2017 in order to create awareness about the IPM practices among the farmers. Mr. Kanhaya Lal Prasad, AO, State Agriculture Department, A&N Islands was present as chief guest and Ms. S. Appalnarsamma, Gram Pradhan, Guptapara was present as guest of honour. Also Mr. Sreedam Biswas, JAA, A&N Agri. Dept., Ms. Moroni Das, PRI member Guptapara and Mr. N. Nath Nag, Chairman, Netaji Service Cooperative Society, Guptapara were present during the programmes. Addressing the inaugural function Mr. S. K. Mandal, PPO (E), CIPMC, Port Blair discussed the detailed history of pesticide application and establishment of pesticide as unavoidable factor after green revolution.
Mr. Prasad elaborated different schemes related to subsidy from Department of Agriculture and discussed on microorganisms prepared by their department. Mr. S.C.  Bairagi, APPO described about Integrated Pest Management and elaborated the techniques i.e cultural, mechanical, biological and need based chemical application. Mr. Nag asked the farmers to assess the insect pest situation in their crop fields through IPM technology and go for need based use of chemical pesticides and other bio-control measures. Ms. Appalnarsamma welcomed and thanked CIPMC, Port Blair urging the farmers to adopt IPM technique to minimise indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and maximise the production as well as minimise environment pollution.
Mr. V.K. Gupta, APPO discussed about seed treatment methods with various bio pesticides and homemade bio pesticides to avoid major disease infestation. Mr. D. Das, SA elaborated the ill effects of indiscriminate use of pesticides and advised the farmers to learn about pests and natural enemies present in their fields and conserve the natural enemies. 30 farmers were attended the meet which concluded through vote of thanks by Mr. V.K. Rajak, TA, CIPMC, Port Blair.
