Field School on rice benefits farmers at Chouldhari, Mithakhari

Integrated Pest Management Training and Demonstration Programme under Farmers’ Field School in Rice was  inaugurated by Central IPM Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair at Chouldari Gram Panchayat Hall on 19.07.2017 & at Mithakhari Gram Panchayat Hall on today in order to create awareness about the IPM practices among the farmers. In Chouldari Mr Mohan Halder, Pradhan, Chouldari Gram Panchayat and In Mithakhari Mr Md. Safiq, Pradhan, Mithakhari  Gram Panchayat was invited as Chief Guest. In Chouldari Smt. Anita Dey, JAA, Chouldari, State Agri. Department& In Mithakhari Smt.InduBala, JAA, Mithakhari, State Agri. Department was present as guest of honour. Also RM & PRI members were present at Chouldari&Mithakhari.
Addressing the inaugural functions, Mr S.K. Mandal, PPO (E), CIPMC, Port Blair asked the farmers to assess the insect pest situation in their crop fields through IPM technology and go for need based use of chemical pesticides and other bio-control measures.
At Chouldari, Mr Mohan Halder, Pradhan, Chouldari welcomed CIPMC, Port Blair for conducting such eco-friendly programme in the areas and urged the farmers to adopt IPM technique to minimize indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and maximize the production as well as minimize environment pollution. Shri V.K. Gupta, APPO, CIPMC, Port Blair elaborated the ill-effects of indiscriminate use of pesticides and advised the farmers to learn about pests and natural enemies present in their fields and conserve the natural enemies. Shri Dibyendu Das, SA discussed the details history of pesticide application and establishment of pesticide as  an unavoidable factor after green revolution. He described about Integrated Pest Management and elaborated the techniques i.e. cultural, mechanical, biological & need based chemical application.Shri. V.K. Rajak, TA, CIPMC Port Blair discussed about seed treatment methods with various bio pesticides and homemade bio pesticides to avoid major disease infestation. All together 30 farmers were present.The Programme was concluded through vote of thanks by Shri V.K. Rajak, TA, CIPMC, Port Blair.
